Residents across the UK are gaining increased access to affordable renewable energy, thanks to the continued rollout of the Solar Together initiative. This innovative group-buying scheme is helping homeowners reduce their energy bills, lower carbon emissions and become more independent from the national grid by offering solar panel systems, battery storage and electric vehicle (EV) charge points at competitive prices.

Now available in areas such as North East Lincolnshire, the West Midlands, Greater Manchester and London, Solar Together is a collaboration between local councils and the international group-buying specialist iChoosr. Since its launch in the UK in 2015, iChoosr has partnered with local authorities in 5 countries, delivering over 200 schemes that have enabled more than 191,000 homeowners to install solar PV and battery systems.
In North East Lincolnshire, residents can take advantage of the scheme’s offerings, including not only solar panels and battery storage but also retrofit battery options for those who already have solar panels installed. The addition of EV charge points further enhances the benefits for households looking to maximise their renewable energy use.
“With energy prices continuing to fluctuate, residents of North East Lincolnshire are looking for opportunities to reduce their carbon emissions, save on energy bills, and increase their independence from the grid,” said Marie-Louise Abretti, Solar Together UK Business Manager when speaking of the latest area included. “The Solar Together group-buying scheme offers a straightforward way to make an informed decision and to access a competitive offer from a trusted, vetted provider.”
Dudley Council has also welcomed the scheme as it launches regionally in partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority. The council’s climate lead emphasised that the initiative will help local homeowners feel confident in the pricing and quality of installations, supporting the borough’s broader sustainability goals.
The scheme operates through a reverse auction model, where pre-approved solar installers compete to offer the lowest price for group orders. This approach ensures value for money while maintaining high standards of quality and service. Once the auction concludes, residents receive a personalised offer, giving them the option to proceed with installation through a vetted provider.
By participating in the programme, households not only benefit financially but also contribute to the UK’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The scheme aligns with national and local ambitions to accelerate the energy transition and promote widespread adoption of clean technologies.
