A new solar farm in New South Wales has added 353 megawatts to Australia’s solar capacity, as it became operational this week. The plant was built by Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) who now have 8 operational projects in Australia, totalling 1 gigawatt of renewable energy capacity. They also have a large-scale battery project currently under construction.

This solar farm has provided a boost to the country’s renewable energy targets, but also for the local economy, creating 350 jobs.
Elsewhere in Australia, a new survey by Farmers for Climate Action has shown this week that 70% of Australians living in ‘renewable energy zones’ now support the development of new renewable energy projects on farmland. For many farmers, renewable energy developments provide a valuable source of income but for others, concerns over decommissioning and a distrust of developers outweigh the benefits. Farmers for Climate Action are confident that improved national standards and guidelines can go some way to alleviating these concerns.
Australia has witnessed several major anti-renewables protests recently so the survey results have been welcomed, showing that the ‘silent majority’ support the energy transition.
