REI Alumni Spotlight – Jose Jiminez-Garcia, Master in Renewable Energy Award Achiever

The Renewable Energy Institute (REI) is regularly in contact with participants who are attending its courses in order to achieve the internationally recognised Galileo Master Certificate and further their careers in the renewable energy sector.

The Renewable Energy Institute, which has trained a global network of course participants from over 150 countries worldwide, is delighted to speak with Jose Jiminez-Garcia, who has studied the global online Master in Renewable Energy Award, an 18 month programme to achieve the highest accolade at the Institute. Jose has been able to attend the courses through his work, enabling him to expand his knowledge in the area of renewable energy.

The REI’s Accredited Master in Renewable Energy Award is available to study On-Demand at your own pace, including 15 courses with access to tutorial videos, led by renowned academic professors and industry experts and the option of studying 3 of your courses in the Live Virtual Classroom.

After achieving his Accredited Master in Renewable Energy Award, Jose spoke with us about his experience studying with the REI.

1. Why did you choose to study with the Renewable Energy Institute?

I have been wanting to transition my career into the renewable energy sector for a while and I was looking for potential training courses to enable me to do so – I compared a few training courses and the REI’s courses seemed to provide more quality and offer more flexibility with the Master in Renewable Energy Award.

2. You studied alongside a full-time job – how did the Master Award programme fit into your regular schedule?

It’s quite easy! I studied for around 2 hours a day and the REI provided enough enrolment time for each course to enable me to study the course materials thoroughly – it’s very flexible. That allowed me to progress at a good pace. It was no problem for me to fit my studies into my schedule – I took weekends off and had no problem mixing the courses with my social and work life balance.

3. Has your employer been supportive of the training and development?

My company is very supportive of my training and development and value its importance for my career progression – they allow me time in my work schedule every day to help me study. They know the training relates to a number of our ongoing projects and will be of value for both my professional development and my company’s growth.

4. What are the skills that you gained with the Renewable Energy Institute and have you applied them to your work?

At the moment, we’re involved heavily in areas of building efficiency and biomass across the country and the training has put me into a great position for working on these projects – a couple of weeks ago, I actually managed to get a promotion off the back of my new skills I have gained studying these courses!

5. Would you recommend the Master Award pathway to others?

I would recommend the Master Award pathway to everyone – I really enjoyed it and the REI should be very proud of what you’re doing. The REI doesn’t overload you with a lot of irrelevant information and the courses are very focused – I’m really very impressed.
