New Global Coalition Announced To Support COP30

Climate conference

The countdown to COP30 is on, with just 5 months until the Conference of the Parties begins in Brazil on 10th November 2025, bringing together delegates from across the world to continue climate negotiations.

This week, the Global Renewables Alliance (GRA) announced a global coalition designed to support the COP Presidency. Along with a renewable energy mobilisation committee, the GRA coalition will look to co-ordinate private sector leadership to help the energy transition. Its main aims will be to mobilise businesses, highlight success stories and present policy recommendations. Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) highlighted the importance of this coalition stating that without the private sector, COP30, and the energy transition itself, cannot succeed.

COP30 President, André Corrêa do Lago, welcomed the coalition and shared his hopes for the upcoming conference. “Brazil is proof that a developing country can deploy renewables in an extremely efficient manner, in an absolute secure way, and also, with a price that is absolutely competitive,” he said.

COP30 will continue to place an emphasis on the goal of tripling renewable energy adoption by 2030, which was previously agreed in 2023 at COP28. In the lead up to the conference, countries will also be expected to confirm their own Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) outlining exactly how they intend to reach the 2030 target and more. COP30 will also look to turn financial pledges into real investments and co-operation with the private sector will be key to the success of this.
