Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has announced plans to develop substantial renewable energy projects in the Andhra Pradesh region of India. A range of solar, wind and hybrid projects will add 7GW of clean energy to the grid but also boost the local economy by creating 750,000 jobs. It is hoped that this will turn the region into a ‘renewable energy hub’ and boost the economy significantly.

As we work towards global net zero targets, there has never been a better or more exciting time to transition to a career in renewable energy. A wide range of jobs exist across the sector to suit all interests and you can find out more about potential renewable energy careers here.

The additional 7GW of energy for Andhra Pradesh will come at a significant cost and requires one of the largest investments that the state has seen. It is estimated that the projects will require $5.63 billion which will be funded by TPREL and the state government.

These projects are still in the earliest stages with assessments and feasibility assessments still to be carried out. However, TPREL and the Andhra Pradesh government are optimistic about the benefits it will bring:

“We are delighted to partner with the government of Andhra Pradesh in advancing the state’s clean energy journey. By leveraging our expertise and cutting-edge technology, this partnership will drive large-scale renewable adoption and contribute to India’s sustainability goals.

Deepesh Nanda, TPREL CEO

Overall, these projects will contribute to the long term goal to add 160GW of renewable energy to Andhra Pradesh’s supply.
