Europe now has its first official Renewable Energy Institute, as the UK Government earlier this year awarded the prestigious ‘Institute’ title to the Renewable Energy Institute (REI).
The Institute status, which is only awarded to educational bodies of the highest standing, is a testament to the REI’s significant work in the Renewable Energy sector since 1975 and the work carried out with intergovernmental organisations, United Nations agencies, leading universities and organisations around the world.
Professor Emeritus John Wilson, who has been working with the REI-ECT for the past decade, is proud of the organisation’s achievement: “I am delighted that the REI-ECT has been given such an important recognition following the years of outstanding educational work in Renewable Energy. The Renewable Energy Institute is well-placed to act as a key player in further supporting a global transition towards a sustainable economy, with increasing job opportunities and green energy development in the UK and worldwide.”
As part of the Renewable Energy Institute’s mission to promote knowledge-sharing and best practice in Renewable Energy and Efficiency, the REI provides all course participants the opportunity to join the Institute’s acclaimed Professional Membership Programme. The programme follows a Renewable Energy Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Framework which allows professionals to develop skills, knowledge and experience in Renewable Energy and Technology, and to showcase achievements to progress their careers. With over 5000 members globally, the Professional Membership Programme is also a platform where REI Alumni connect with each other and receive the latest news in Renewable Energy through a monthly bulletin.
The Renewable Energy Institute currently provides members with academic articles, premium videos, and a variety of cutting-edge Renewable Energy resources. With the new Institute status, the REI plans to develop the membership programme further, putting resources towards exclusive networking events and presentations by the REI’s experts and international research collaborators.
