REI Alumni Spotlight – New York Power Authority, Jason Bocchinfuso

GMC Certificate Achievers & REI Alumni Spotlight

New York Power Authority – Jason Bocchinfuso

The Renewable Energy Institute (REI) is pleased to focus on the achievements of those who have attended REI courses and attained the internationally recognised Galileo Master Certificate to further their careers in the Renewable, Green and Non-Conventional Energy sectors.

The REI, which works with the United Nations Environment Programme and major universities to stop climate change by upskilling organisations in how to make investments in Clean and Sustainable Energy, is delighted to speak with the New York Power Authority’s Jason Bocchinfuso, who attended the Renewable Energy Market Trends and Finance course in New York City.

Hi Jason – what is your professional background & expertise and how does this relate to the Renewable Energy field?

During much of my career I worked within the confines of the City of New York’s energy management division at the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS).

This unit was responsible for energy procurement for municipal operations. It also administered the energy efficiency programs created to achieve ambitious emissions reductions for the City. I worked mostly in data analytics and finally with energy efficiency programs. I was also involved with the renewable energy team, piloting technologies that incorporated renewables such as resilient, off-grid PV/wind power LED streetlights.

2. Why did you choose to train with the REI Accredited Center? I was seeking alternative paths to expand my skillsets and knowledgebase and the REI demonstrated a robust group of offerings. I have so far completed the Galileo Master Certificates for the courses Renewable Energy Market Trends and Finance, Energy Efficiency in Buildings, and Wind Power. I am also attending the upcoming Electric Vehicles course in New York City in November this year.

3. What are the skills and knowledge that you gained on the course?

The Renewable Energy Market Trends and Finance course was a great refresher of my current knowledge in the sector. The pool of participants was very diverse, including delegates from BlackRock, National Grid and Climate Nexus, so networking with the other participants was of great value.

4. How will you apply these skills to your career, either directly or indirectly?

I am seeking to break out into the larger sustainability sector rather than focusing purely on energy efficiency. The content covered during the course and the contacts I made will come in handy for this purpose.
