REI Alumni Spotlight – Dyson, Amir Raeisi

GMC Certificate Achievers & REI Alumni Spotlight

Senior Engineer, Dyson – Amir Raeisi

The Renewable Energy Institute (REI) is pleased to focus on the achievements of those who have attended REI courses and attained the internationally recognised Galileo Master Certificate to further their careers in the Green and Sustainable Energy sectors. The REI, which works with the United Nations Environment Programme and major universities to promote best practice in Green and Sustainable Energy, this month is delighted to speak with Amir Raeisi, Senior Engineer at Dyson, who attended the Electric Vehicles course at the University of London.

1. Hi Amir: what is your current expertise and how does this relate to the renewable energy field?

I am a Senior Refrigeration and Thermal Management Engineer, currently working on the Dyson Electric Car project.

I have a PhD in Energy Technologies – Heat Transfer and Fluid Dynamics and carried out my Post-doctoral Research in Refrigeration and Energy Storage.  I have more than 12 years’ experience in Electric Vehicles HVAC and thermal management system design, commercial and retail refrigeration system design, domestic air-source heat pump design, heat exchanger design, energy storage, and heat and mass transfer. At the moment I am in charge of the design of the Dyson Electric Car’s Refrigeration System.

2. Why did you choose to train with the Renewable Energy Institute in order to take the exam for the internationally recognised Galileo Master Certificate?

I found the course title and content very related to my current position –  I also found the REI to be a very professional body in terms of providing professional training courses in the field of Renewable Energy, which is very related to my background in Electric Vehicles at Dyson.

3. What are the skills that you gained with the Renewable Energy Institute?

Following the Electric Vehicles course, I gained a very good understanding of Electric Vehicles and battery technologies on a wider scale, as well as all of the regulations and policies relating to Electric Vehicles. The course also covered the current and future recharging infrastructure, which was very helpful.

4. How will you apply these skills to your career, either directly or indirectly? I will apply the skills that I gained from the Electric Vehicles course directly to my current role developing a new Electric Vehicle refrigeration system at Dyson.
