GMC Certificate Achievers & REI Alumni Spotlight
Bulb Energy – Caitlin Connell
The Renewable Energy Institute (REI) is pleased to focus on the achievements of those who have attended REI courses and attained the internationally recognised Galileo Master Certificate to further their careers in the Green and Sustainable Energy sectors. The REI, which works with the United Nations Environment Programme and major universities to promote best practice in Green and Sustainable Energy, this month is delighted to speak with Caitlin Connell of Bulb Energy, who is studying to achieve the Green Energy Consultant Expert Certificate, and has attended the Energy Storage and Renewable Energy Management & Finance courses at the University of London.

1. Hi Caitlin: what is your current expertise and how does this relate to the renewable energy field?
I studied Chemistry for my undergraduate studies, before studying MSc Science, Technology and Society. Following my Masters, I now work at Bulb within the Solar team.
2. Why did you choose to train with the Renewable Energy Institute in order to take the exam for the internationally recognised Galileo Master Certificate?
I chose to train with the REI primarily due to the range of courses on offer across the spectrum of Renewable Energy: including broader topics such as Renewable Energy Solutions as well as more specific areas like Energy Storage and Electric Vehicles. Additionally, the REI courses are taught by lecturers with rich and varied careers in the industry.
“Essentially, the courses have enriched my understanding of energy services and the energy sector, which in turn is assisting me with my current role and has given me a more informed view of where my career can progress.”
– Caitlin Connell, Bulb Energy
3. What are the skills that you gained with the Renewable Energy Institute?
The Green Energy Consultant Expert Certificate courses gave me the opportunity to learn about energy services in much more depth. There was a nice balance of technical knowledge alongside wider knowledge enabling me to understand the energy industry as a whole and key players within it. The lecturers were very knowledgeable, with lifetimes of experience in the sector.
4. How will you apply these skills to your career, either directly or indirectly?
I have already shared knowledge from the Energy Storage and Renewable Energy Management & Finance courses within the team and will continue to do so after attending the third. Essentially, the courses have enriched my understanding of energy services and the energy sector, which in turn is assisting me with my current role and has given me a more informed view of where my career can progress.
